Austin Parks For You And Your Pup

Austin Parks For You And Your Pup

Summer is in full bloom and there's no better time to explore the city. Let your pup run free in these Austin parks this summer, each open from 5 am-10 pm.

1 | Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park

12138 N Lamar Boulevard | Website

Winding dirt trails, natural lush vegetation, a creek to keep cool, and plenty of other pooches make this the perfect place to take your pup to off-leash. The trail extends across over 200 wooded acres of public land, so there’s plenty space to explore.

2 | Turkey Creek Trail at Emma Long Metropolitan Park

1600 City Park Road | Website

One of the only off-leash nature trails in the city, Turkey Creek boasts 2.5 densely wooded miles along a lively stream and access to deeper pools for swimming. Arrive early to claim a parking spot!

3 | Red Bud Isle

3401 Redbud Trail

One of Austin’s favorite off-leash dog parks, with 13 acres of natural beauty. It backs up to a river, so be sure to keep an eye on your pooch if they don’t get to swim often!

4 | Zilker Park

2201 Barton Springs Road | Website

The largest park in Austin, Zilker is every dog’s ultimate meetup spot. Pups run free off-leash at this 351 acre park, and there’s even an Instagram account for the dogs of Zilker.

5 | Vic Mathias Shores

800 or 920 W Riverside Drive | Website

After a recent redesign of the park, the western half of Vic Mathias Shores has been designated as an official off-leash play zone. Straddled by city streets, this park is great for bringing your well-behaved pooch to socialize and explore Lady Bird Lake.

6 | Barton Creek Greenbelt

3755 S Capital of Texas Highway | Website

This extensive hike and bike trail is great for dogs looking to cover tons of ground exploring. It’s divided into plenty of sections, so be sure to take a look at the Barton Creek Greenbelt Guide before heading out.

7 | Onion Creek District Park

7001 Onion Creek Drive

Except for the playground, this park is off-leash. Swimming opportunities and shady hiking trails can be found throughout the park, which spans 170 acres. This is a great place to take your furry friend for water activities!

Taking in the natural beauty of Austin is always more fun with a furry friend by your side. These parks are sure to keep you and your pup entertained for hours!
