As our society has changed and evolved with technology, so has our art. Immersive experiences have taken the art world by storm. Instagram and social media have pushed artists to think about how they can get both their message and vision out into the world in a unique and interesting way. Wonderspace began in 2016 as a way to attempt to bridge the gap between art and these new audiences.
Originally a traveling show, Wonderspace has set up a permanent residence in Austin.
“We’re exploring what it takes to make extraordinary art accessible in cities across the country. Recognizing that every community is unique, we intend to set up in a variety of spaces: a downtown cruise ship terminal in San Diego, a converted movie theater inside a mall in Scottsdale, and a warehouse complex in Austin, to name a few. We intend to reach people who don’t usually seek out art; we’re happy to repurpose spaces to do so. “ - Wonderspace
They have taken significant steps to make sure this experience can be delivered both in an intimate and safe way in our current world.
To create a safe environment for our visitors and team, we have implemented comprehensive health and cleanliness protocols consistent with government recommendations. These changes include:
- Significantly reducing the number of visitors who enter the space,
- Requiring face coverings be worn by our team and by visitors,
- Selling tickets online only and eliminating the use of cash throughout the venue,
- Making hand sanitizer readily available,
- Checking temperatures at check-in,
- Cleaning commonly touched surfaces with greater frequency, and
- Limiting face-to-face interactions between visitors and our team to our reception and bar where there are plexiglass barriers.
