New Local Businesses to Check Out in The New Year

New Local Businesses to Check Out in The New Year

Get ready to spend the new year checking out some of these hot new spots in Austin!

The Dirdie Birdie

The Dirdie Birdie is an original and elegant indoor mini golf experience that recently opened at The Domain. The multifaceted space features 12 Austin-inspired mini golf holes, as well as a full-service restaurant and bar directed by Chef Nicholas Yanes. The Dirdie Birdie will serve a menu of small bites and entrees, including a Spaetzle Cacio e Pepe Gratin, Oven-Roasted Turkey Club and Yellowfin Tuna Crudo. Signature cocktails like the frozen Dirdie Marg, All Day Bloody and Yuzu Pimms Cup will be available for sipping. The Dirdie Birdie is located at 10910 Domain Drive. Tickets for one round of mini golf are $18 and can be reserved online here. Walk-ins will also be accepted. For more information, visit their website and follow along on Instagram.

Este

Este is a new Mexican seafood spot from the same people behind the popular Austin restaurant Suerte. Dishes include charcoal-cooked oysters, fried fish tacos on corn tortillas, and grilled shrimp. Drinks include global coastal wines and champagne selected by general manager Celia Pellegrini, along with cocktails and margaritas created by bar manager Patrick Wasetis. The indoor space feels like a bright, seaside diner. Tall vaulted ceilings with exposed rafters, and a golden backlit bar give the place a regal look, while the blue/gray tones throughout the dining room add a bit of coastal flair.

Howards Bar & Club

Howards is located on 1130 S. Sixth St. and is described as a “part neighborhood tavern, part dance party,” per the press release. There are bar foods such as manchego cheese-and-salami-stuffed fried olives, chips with caviar, and Chicago hot dogs. The drinks include cocktails like the Pink Lady (an egg white drink with gin, applejack, lemon juice, and grenadine), the Hotel Nacional (a rum-apricot liqueur-citrus drink), draft espresso martinis, and a big whiskey lineup. The same group who brought us places like Sammie’s, Perla’s, and Lambert’s, is also behind this sleek new bar.

Vintage Bookstore & Wine Bar

This spot is Austin’s first independent bookstore wine bar. Whether you're looking for a spot to cultivate a killer book club or just a place to enjoy quality time with a friend, Vintage is the perfect place. With live music, author events, trivia nights, and more, there is always something going on. Check out our calendar here to see all upcoming events.

Industry Eastside

The evolution for “Industry” began when Cody Taylor and Harlan Scott first met while waiting tables in college. Cody and Harlan both separately moved to Austin and remained friends while both achieving great success in and becoming fixtures of the hospitality industry. They opened "Industry" as a tribute to the service industry culture that came to define them and their values and to create a spot that was more of a community space than just a restaurant. "Industry" is best known for its 100% scratch menu with many healthy options, fair prices, casual yet thoughtful atmosphere, and being a spot for all, families, professionals and everyone in between.
