"Out-of-Towner's" Guide to: ACL 2026

"Out-of-Towner's" Guide to: ACL 2026

Representing the Live Music Capital of the World isn’t an easy task, but it’s one that Austin City Limits shoulders with ease. Whether you’ve lived in Austin your whole life or just pay the odd visit, it’s plain to see how ACL has cemented itself as an iconic event nationwide. So iconic, in fact, that those unlucky enough to get caught in downtown ACL traffic will be left feeling like they’re in a new city – even the locals . Luckily, just like with Austin’s temperamental housing market, Moreland is here to help you out of the festival weeds. This year, let us guide you through all the need-to-knows of ACL like you’re an out-of-towner – it’s one of our specialties.

This year, ACL has a stacked lineup of many talented artists that you won’t want to miss. Let’s face it – if you were going to buy a weekend pass, you would’ve done so already. Luckily, those who just want to see a particular band or artist on the lineup perform can count on single day passes being available until the weekend-of (You may even be able to snag them online for a thrifty price at the last second!)

Don't be discouraged by the restrictions on parking at Zilker during ACL, we know any sane Austinite’s first question would be “can I bike there?” To which the answer is certainly! The Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail is a ten-mile loop that provides easy access to Zilker Park and the surrounding area, with plenty of access points near lots, bus stops, and maybe even your front door. Most downtown streets have bike lanes and sidewalks to access the trail, and Austin drivers are used to sharing the road with cyclists. That being said, always be vigilant – you may remember that festival traffic is a strange beast.

Those who can't bike or walk may use the free shuttle service that’s included with every wristband. Running from Republic Square to the Barton Springs West Entrance, you’ll only be a hop skip and a jump away from the gates. The shuttle is great for groups as well as solo travelers, since you’ll always be rolling with a crowd, however the option to ride share is always available.

When it comes to accommodation and transportation, no one option is better than the other – what matters the most is planning so you don’t lose hours you could be spending having fun. Wherever you book your rental or hotel stay, make sure to familiarize yourself with the area and keep track of bus stops or trail access points nearby – for both your safety and ease.

Don’t let the fact that it’s October fool you – the Texas sun is a notorious rule breaker. Make sure you remember sunscreen (in a non-aerosol container) and some kind of reusable water bottle or hydration pack. ACL bag policy dictates that attendees are allowed to bring small, one-pocket purses, or medium-sized bags and backpacks as long as they’re clear. A general rule of thumb is to pack light and prioritize hydration, since some things you may not consider to be such as umbrellas are not permitted on the festival grounds.

Although the weather won't be characteristic of fall, allergies will. If you already know you get seasonal sniffles, it may be a good idea to take medicine before you arrive, as non-prescription medications generally aren’t allowed inside. Also, if you have room in your bag, a small poncho or rain coat may be a wise addition – random fall showers aren’t unheard of, especially in recent years.

In order to stay safe in the crowds, be sure to coordinate with your group before entry to set a designated meeting spot, and maybe establish a buddy system. As the festival begins to fill up, cell service will be spotty, so you may not be able to contact people as you normally would. A great point of reference are the tall flags by the main gates, since they can be seen above the hullabaloo.

Be sure to be mindful of those around you, look out for your neighbor, and report any suspicious activity to uniformed security. For a full breakdown of ACL’s security practices, click here.

In a city as dedicated to arts and community as Austin is, remember that the goal of a fun event like ACL is to be among, listen to good music, and have fun. Locals and newcomers alike, Moreland’s M.O. has always been to help you find your way. Whether it’s festival-going or buying and selling, we’ve got you.
