When a home is striking, it’s sometimes hard to say if it’s in a good way or a not-so-good way. Eye of the beholder and all that, but this Westlake house, designed by Kevin Stewart of Design Hound in 2015 and featured in the 2018 Tribeza Home Interiors Tour, seems to stand out in a good way. With its steeply angled, almost-A-frame shape on one side met firmly by a low, horizontal wing near the bottom, it plays with modernist tropes, reminding one of the midcentury, A-frame church with a classroom extension, perhaps.

The limestone and strips of Ipe or similar dark hardwood bring it back around to a Central Texas vernacular, as do aspects such as the narrow entry skylights and ground-level bedroom window, which probably have to do with bringing in light without the baking temperatures.

Located in the Westwood enclave of the larger enclave of Westlake, the two-story home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in 3,686 square feet. It features white oak hardwood floors throughout the home, open-plan living and kitchen areas, a fenced backyard, and a swimming pool. The listing for 303 Laurelwood Trail is held by Chad Mahagan at Moreland Properties.
