We all want to find ways to enjoy the beautiful weather while keeping our friends and family safe. Thanks to the creative initiative of Pease Park Conservancy, AIA Austin, and Austin Foundation for Architecture, it’s easier than ever. Say hello to – P A R K S P A C E.
“Both vibrant and practical, P A R K S P A C E is an intervention that helps visualize social distancing guidelines in Austin’s parks and green spaces. As Austinites step carefully back out of their homes, we need to shift the ways we move through and interact in public spaces. To help with this transition, P A R K S P A C E provides a creative wayfinding system to encourage safe practices for our community. The site-specific installation series uses eco-friendly turf paint to delineate spaces where people can come together to enjoy their favorite outdoor activities—like picnics, yoga, and relaxing in the sun—while maintaining a safe distance.” - City of Austin
This installation will be present in several parks around Austin, including Pease Park, Republic Square, Zilker Park, and Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Park. Each with its own unique colors to match the area’s surrounding topography – The photo featured above is designed with our beautiful bluebonnets’ hues and tones.
These spaces will be the perfect place to take your family on a picnic, practice yoga, or lay out and soak up some of the Texan sun, all while keeping a safe distance. Expect these installations to remain throughout the summer.
