Homestead Exemption 2022

New Law Effective January 1, 2022 for Homestead Exemptions

Homeowners are no longer required to wait until January 1 of the year following the purchase of a primary residence to qualify for a homestead exemption. As of January 1, 2022, a homeowner can receive their exemption in the year the property is acquired.
 

Requirements:

  • The homeowner must be an individual (not a corporation or business)

  • The home must be the owner’s principal residence

  • Only one property may be claimed at a time
