How to: Austin Rodeo 2026

How to: Austin Rodeo 2026

Published March 9, 2026

Every spring, Austinites trade in their city boots for cowboy boots as one of the city’s most beloved traditions returns: Rodeo Austin. Held each March at the Travis County Exposition Center, the annual rodeo blends Western heritage, live music, carnival rides, Texas food, and family-friendly fun into a multi-week celebration.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned rodeo-goer, the event can feel overwhelming with so much happening across the fairgrounds. From planning your tickets to knowing what events not to miss, this guide breaks down exactly how to do Rodeo Austin like a local.

The rodeo runs March 13–28, 2026, with events happening daily throughout the fairgrounds. Rodeo Austin hosts one of the top ProRodeos in the country, featuring events like bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, and fan-favorite mutton bustin’.

Each evening performance typically begins at 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sundays, lasting around three hours—starting with Rodeo events and ending with the live concert of the night.

2026 concert highlights include performances from artists like Eli Young Band, Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, and Flatland Cavalry. Find the full schedule of artists and concerts here.

Rodeo Austin offers several ticket types depending on what experience you want.

Typical options include:

  • Fairgrounds Admission: around $10 for adults
  • Rodeo & Concert Tickets: roughly $30–$55 depending on seating
  • Carnival Wristbands: about $45 for unlimited rides
  • Parking: around $20 per vehicle (cash or credit card)

Rodeo tickets also include fairgrounds admission, so many visitors opt for the combined experience. Find tickets and breakdowns of each here.

Even if you’re attending for the rodeo itself, arriving early to explore the fairgrounds is part of the experience.

Expect classic Texas fair fun including:

  • Austin’s largest carnival with more than 60 rides and games
  • A petting zoo and pony rides for kids
  • Local vendors and Western shopping
  • Agricultural and youth exhibitions
  • Texas fair food and barbecue

The fairgrounds open daily at 10 a.m. during rodeo season, making it easy to turn your visit into a full-day outing. Explore all the fairgrounds have to offer here.

Like many major Austin events, the rodeo draws large crowds — especially on weekends. Pro tips are as follows:

Get tickets ahead of time.
Tickets went on sale a while ago so if you haven’t grabbed yours already make sure to do so ahead of time to ensure your access and secure your seat to the show.

Plan your parking situation.
Parking is offered at the fairgrounds for a fee. Ride. Shares are encouraged.

Arrive early.
This gives you time to explore the fairgrounds before the rodeo performance.

Weeknights are less crowded.
Tuesday through Thursday typically offer shorter lines.

Spring break gets busy.
Expect larger crowds when local schools are out.

Half the fun of rodeo season is embracing the Western vibe.

You’ll see plenty of:

  • Cowboy boots
  • Denim and Western shirts
  • Belt buckles and hats
  • Fringe and vintage Western style

Even if you’re not a rodeo regular, it’s the perfect excuse to lean into Texas fashion.

Between the food vendors and BBQ Austin festivities, it’s easy to make your visit as much about the food as the rodeo. Vendors accept Magic Money which can be obtained at kiosks on the fairgrounds and credit/debit cards.

Rodeo food is a category of its own. While barbecue is always a staple, visitors can also expect:

  • Turkey legs
  • Funnel cakes
  • Corn dogs
  • Fried treats
  • Texas-sized lemonade

For nearly a century, rodeos have been a cornerstone of Texas culture — celebrating agriculture, Western heritage, and community. Today, Rodeo Austin continues that tradition while bringing together live music, carnival fun, and family-friendly entertainment.

Whether you’re heading out for bull riding, a concert night with friends, or a day exploring the fairgrounds with family, the rodeo is one of the most uniquely Texan experiences Austin has to offer.
