The level of trust we have in his opinion on houses, and looking out for our best interests is on the level of that of a family member we've known all our lives. He helped us buy what we like to call our first "real" home on Vallejo in 2008 and now our dream home on Trailridge. He is invaluable to us. We can always count on Don to point out potential pitfalls in a home, especially when it comes to foundation issues. He knows the soil in Austin and which homes are more likely to shift and the ones that are solid as a rock. He also knows what homes may have cast iron pipes, windows set too high and not up to code, among other things that otherwise we'd have no clue about. But more than that, he has fantastic vision. He can see the potential of what a home can be. This is such a great asset for us because we like to find homes that need a personal touch. Touring a place with him is one part education in terms of the functional pros and cons of a home and one part creative in terms of what a home could be. On that note, we've always wanted to play a drinking game every time Don says "Pocket doors" lol —we're kidding, pocket doors are always a good idea. And that's just in the looking phase. Once you're locked into an offer, he goes above and beyond to get you the best deal and is so patient with my (Nicole's) impatience when someone on the other side of the deal takes forever to give us an answer. I've called him late at night for an issue and apologized for bugging him - his response - "Call me any time. You're never bugging me." That was such a comfort, just knowing I could call or text him if I needed to. But I swear I did resist - most of the time. When we did our inspection on Trailridge we realized Don had already called in a roofer, and someone to quote us for a new air conditioner so we'd have those numbers handy for when we moved in should we want to have that work done right away. He also came to the inspection himself and was hands-on in making sure he was fully informed about any unexpected costs so he could take that to the seller and again, get us the best deal possible. Buying a home is such a milestone in your life. And working with Don truly has made those milestones so meaningful. And we are forever grateful for everything he's done for us.
